The OMI Summer Lab will run in Cambridge, MA from July 11-29, and we are seeking support from creators, companies, academic institutions and organizations from across the music and technology ecosystem.

Thank you for your interest in making the Summer Lab successful!  Please take a look at what we're looking for specifically and sign up at the bottom.

We are looking for help and engagement in the following specific ways:

"The Bat Call"

When?

Low time investment  - 1 hour on a given afternoon (at member's choosing) from 7/14 - 7/18 and/or 7/22 - 7/26.

Where?

The internet - a video call (Skype or Google Hangouts)

What Is It?

Sometimes the design process just needs a fresh perspective to get the necessary inspiration for the next breakthrough. By signing up for a "Bat Call", you're saying you'll be there when a team of fellows needs you - whether that's for specific knowledge you or your company specializes in, a user interview for feedback, or something else.  This is a great low-time-investment way to help the Summer Lab if you can't physically be in Boston.

Inspiration Tech Talks

When?

Low time investment  - 1 hour on one given afternoon of the following: 7/13, 7/14, 7/21, 7/22.

Where?

Ideally in person at Berklee, but a remote presentation is also an option.

What Is It?

Give a 15-30 minute presentation on a new technology or company that is changing the landscape of the music world that we may or may not have heard of. Answer questions. Drink coffee. Meet the members!  These presentations will inject the Lab with fresh ideas and mediums for prototyping over the course of the sprint.

Ask an Expert for Feedback

When?

Medium-low time investment - 1-2 hours for any or all of the following afternoons of 7/15 and 7/19 (Sprint One), and/or the afternoons of 7/25 and 7/27 (Sprint Two)

Where?

In person, at Berklee College of Music Summer Lab HQ in Boston.

What Is It?

"Coaching Lite."  You'll come in for early and later prototype shares by the fellows, and provide rapid feedback and critique to pointed questions the fellows have for you. We ideally need 6-18 individuals to come by the lab on any given afternoon listed above.

Although we would love help and feedback from anyone, there is a specific need for musicians on 7/15 and 7/19, as one of the sprints focuses on the artist as the user. Fellows will be looking to interview musicians to gain empathy and pinpoint opportunities specific to the experience of the artist.

Coaching

When and Where?

High time investment - 2-8 hours every day in Sprint One and/or Sprint Two (7/13 - 7/19, 7/21 - 7/27)

Where?

In person, at Berklee College of Music Summer Lab HQ in Boston.

What Is It?

Coaches will be assigned to a team appropriate to their background and skillset, and will work with that team on a daily basis through the design process. We realize this is high-investment, but if you have the time and interest, please let us know!

Build With Us

When?

Medium-Low time investment  - 4-8 hours on any of the following days: 7/14, 7/15, 7/18, 7/22, 7/25, or 7/26.

Where?

In person at Berklee

What Is It?

This one's for the makers - developers, designers, photographers, video editors, engineers, and everyone in between! Come "build to think" with the fellows. Get out the elbow grease and help the fellows bring their designs to testable reality - eg. a physical object, a "fake" software experience. Help from developers of all kinds is especially needed. The goal is speed, storytelling, and testability over perfection.

Donate or Loan Us Resources

When?

Anytime from now until 7/28 - sooner is better!

What Is It?

If your time is short but you'd still like to help make the Summer Lab successful, we are open to resource donation and/or borrow.  A resource could be any of the following:

- Software licenses

- Data / API access

- Tech hardware access - do you have Oculus / Vive headsets? Elite access to new AR gear? Extra cell phones? Alexis? Let us borrow them!

- Working supplies - we do have a short wishlist of supplies (mostly things like lunches and higher-fidelity prototyping tools) that would be great to be gifted.
